Choosing the right Stone

Different stones have different qualities, your lifestyle will greatly determine the type of stone that works best for you. Many people shop based on maintenance, durability and of course, color. We have full slab and remnant yards that are accessible for viewing with a consultation.

  • Quartz

Quartz is engineered stone, consisting of 93% crushed rock and 7% glue and binding material. It is best used on surfaces indoors, such as bathroom vanities and kitchen counters. It is scratch, chip and stain resistant.

Tips: Wipe up spills quickly, use a cutting board and don't set hot pans directly on the surface.

  • Granite

Granite is an igneous rock made up of different minerals. It is available in a wide array of unique colors and textures. Granite can be used outdoors, on fireplace hearths, and indoor surfaces. It is heat, scratch and erosion resistant, making a perfect surface for high-traffic areas.

Tips: Clean and seal the surface annually.

  • Marble

Marble is a form of metamorphosed limestone, it is soft with varied composition. It adds timelessness and beauty, but can show wear over time. It is best used in low traffic areas. Marble is susceptible to etching, denting, scratching, and staining.

Tips: Avoid using highly acidic products or foods, seal every 6-12 months, and use a barrier between hot items.

  • Soapstone

Soapstone is a metamorphic rock mostly comprised of talc. It is a non-porous, highly heat resistant natural stone. It mainly consists of grey, and grey-green shades with white veining. While strong, it is also soft and susceptible to scratching, and will show its use over time.

Tips: Use a cutting board, and avoid sliding kitchenware across the surface to avoid scratching.

  • Quartzite

Quartzite is a metamorphic rock mainly composed of natural quartz. It is perhaps the hardest natural stone that is available for surfaces. Because of its durability, it is best used in high traffic areas. However, some varieties are more porous than others and can stain.

Tips: Wipe up spills quickly, be sure to ask which finish will best suit the color you’ve chosen.

  • Limestone/Travertine

Limestone and Travertine are sedimentary rocks. They are best used on wall cladding and stone trim, and typically are beige or grey in color. It is highly durable and highly reactive to acidic compounds. We recommend using this stone in bathrooms and other applications outside of the kitchen.

Tips: Due to its specific use, it is available upon request only.
